You do not have to upload anything or install a converter. Because converting takes real processing work, videos up to a certain length can be converted, and the temporary files are deleted after your download.
What you get
- MP4 with H.264 video and AAC sound, which plays almost everywhere
- WebM with VP9 video and Opus sound, for websites and modern browsers
- MP3 at 192 kbps and M4A (AAC) at 192 kbps
- WAV, uncompressed 16-bit audio for editing
- Videos from TikTok, Facebook, Instagram, X, Reddit, Pinterest, Vimeo, Dailymotion and Twitch
How to use it
Step 1: Copy the video link
Open the video in its app or website, tap Share and choose Copy link.
Step 2: Paste it here
Paste the link into the box on this page and press Convert.
Step 3: Choose the target format
Pick MP4 or WebM for a video, or MP3, M4A or WAV for the sound only.
Step 4: Download the converted file
Press Download. The file is converted on our server first, so it takes longer to start than a normal download.
Which format to choose
Each format suits a different purpose:
- MP4: the safe choice. It plays on iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac, smart TVs and in every editing app, and can be added to the iPhone Photos app.
- WebM: an open format for websites. Files are often smaller, but some apps and the iPhone Photos app cannot play them.
- MP3: music and speech for any player, car stereo or older device.
- M4A: compact, good-quality audio for Apple devices and most modern players.
- WAV: uncompressed audio for editing software. Files are many times larger than an MP3 of the same sound.
Quality of converted videos
To keep conversions quick and the service affordable, video conversions start from the best version of the video up to 720p, which is enough for phones, laptops and sharing. If the platform only has larger versions, the smallest of them is used.
If you simply want the video in the best quality, you usually do not need a conversion at all: most platforms already deliver MP4, and the video downloader on the home page offers every quality the platform provides without re-encoding. Use the converter when you specifically need WebM, a fresh H.264 MP4 for an app that refuses the original file, or the sound in WAV or M4A.
Length limit and waiting time
Converting is much heavier work than passing a file through, so the server only converts videos up to a maximum length and runs a limited number of conversions at the same time. When a video is too long, you see a message saying so; the original formats in the video downloader usually still work. Converting to WebM usually takes longer than converting to MP4.
Common problems and fixes
If a conversion does not work, check these points:
- "This video is too long": use the video downloader for the original file, or the Audio Extractor's original track for the sound.
- "We're very busy right now": all conversion slots are in use. Try again in a moment.
- The WebM file will not play: your player does not support WebM. Choose MP4 instead.
- No audio formats are offered: the video has no sound.
Convert responsibly
Converting a video does not change who owns it. Use the converter for your own videos, for content you have permission to use, and for files under a free license, and keep the original creator's rights in mind when you edit or share the result.
Limitations
- Video conversions use a version of up to 720p whenever the platform has one, so converted videos are usually not larger than 720p.
- Only videos up to the site's maximum length can be converted.
- Pexels and Pixabay items and YouTube videos (by default) are not available in the converter.
- Live streams, private and DRM-protected videos are not supported.
Questions and answers
Why is my converted video only 720p?
Conversions start from a version of up to 720p, when the platform has one, to keep processing time reasonable. For the highest quality, download the original file with the video downloader instead.
Can I convert a video file from my computer?
No. The converter works with links to videos on supported platforms; it does not accept uploads.
Can I convert a video to GIF?
No. The converter offers MP4, WebM, MP3, M4A and WAV.
Which format works best on iPhone?
MP4 for videos and M4A or MP3 for audio. WebM files cannot be added to the Photos app.
