Live streams can never be downloaded with SavyClip, and it does not sign in to Twitch. Subscriber-only broadcasts and anything else that requires an account are therefore not available either.
What you can download
- Twitch clips as MP4, in the qualities Twitch provides
- Public past broadcasts, highlights and uploads (VODs)
- The sound of a clip or broadcast as an MP3
- The thumbnail of a clip or broadcast
How to use it
Step 1: Copy the clip or video link
On Twitch, open the clip or past broadcast, tap Share and choose Copy link.
Step 2: Paste it into SavyClip
Paste the link into the box on the SavyClip home page and press Download.
Step 3: Choose a quality
Pick a resolution or the MP3. For long broadcasts, only the qualities that fit the site's file size limit are offered.
Step 4: Download
Press Download next to your choice. Long broadcasts take longer to prepare than clips.
Which Twitch links work
Use the link of one clip or one past broadcast. A channel's main page always shows its live stream, so it is not accepted.
- https://www.twitch.tv/channelname/clip/SlugOfTheClip-AbCdEf123
- https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1234567890 (past broadcasts, highlights and uploads)
Where to find Copy link
In the Twitch app on iPhone and Android, open the channel, go to the Clips or Videos tab and open the clip or broadcast. Tap the Share icon (an arrow) and choose Copy link. If the player controls are hidden, tap the video once.
On a computer, the Share button sits below the player of a clip or past broadcast; click it and copy the link. You can also copy the address from the address bar when the clip or video is open on its own page.
Quality and length
Clips and broadcasts are usually available in the qualities the stream was broadcast in, commonly 1080p60, 720p60, 480p and 360p. SavyClip lists the versions Twitch provides and shows file sizes only when they are known.
Past broadcasts can last many hours, and a full-quality copy of a long stream can be several gigabytes. To keep the service working for everyone, SavyClip only offers the qualities whose estimated size fits within the site's file size limit, so a very long broadcast may only be available in a lower quality, or not at all. Conversions to MP3 and other formats are limited to shorter videos.
Common problems and fixes
If a Twitch link does not work, it is usually one of these situations:
- "Live streams can't be downloaded": the link points to a channel page or a stream that is still live. Wait for the broadcast to end and use the past broadcast or a clip instead.
- "This post is private": the broadcast is for subscribers only.
- "We couldn't find this post": the streamer deleted the clip or broadcast, or Twitch removed the past broadcast after its storage period ended.
- "This video is too long" or "This file is too large": even the lowest quality of the broadcast would be larger than the site's file size limit. Save a clip or a highlight of the part you need instead.
Respect streamers and their communities
Clips feature streamers, their guests and often their chat, and broadcasts may contain music or game footage owned by others. Keep saved clips for personal use, credit the streamer when you share a highlight with their permission, and never use clips to harass anyone.
Limitations
- Live streams are never downloadable.
- Only clips and past broadcasts are supported.
- Subscriber-only broadcasts are not supported.
- Long past broadcasts may be larger than the site's file size limit.
Questions and answers
Can I record a live stream with SavyClip?
No. Live streams are never supported. Once the stream has ended, you can save the past broadcast if the streamer makes it public, or a clip of a moment you liked.
How long are past broadcasts available on Twitch?
Twitch keeps past broadcasts only for a limited time that depends on the streamer's account. After that, the link stops working, unless the streamer saved the broadcast as a highlight.
Why is a broadcast only offered in low quality?
The full-quality file would be larger than the site's file size limit. Only the qualities that fit are listed.
Do clips include the chat?
No. Twitch clips contain the video and the sound of the stream. The chat is not part of the video file.
