SavyClip does not sign in to X and never asks for your password. It works with posts that anyone can open, which excludes protected accounts and posts that X hides behind a sensitive-content warning.
What you can download
- Videos from public posts, as MP4 in the qualities X provides
- GIFs, saved as MP4 (the format X itself uses for GIFs)
- Posts with several videos: each video separately
- The sound of a video as an MP3
- The video's preview image
How to use it
Step 1: Copy the post link
In the X app, tap the Share icon under the post and choose Copy link.
Step 2: Paste it into SavyClip
Paste the link into the box on the SavyClip home page and press Download.
Step 3: Choose a quality
Pick a resolution, or the MP3 for the sound only. For a post with several videos, each one has its own options.
Step 4: Download
Press Download next to your choice and your browser saves the MP4 or MP3 file.
Which X links work
Use the link of a single post. The old twitter.com addresses keep working, and so do the short links X adds to shared posts:
- https://twitter.com/username/status/1712345678901234567
- https://x.com/i/status/1712345678901234567
- https://t.co/AbC123xyz (short links)
- Links from fxtwitter.com, vxtwitter.com and fixupx.com, which are turned into the original x.com link
Where to find Copy link
On iPhone and Android, tap the Share icon in the row of buttons below the post (an arrow pointing up on iPhone, three connected dots on some Android versions) and choose Copy link. If you are viewing the video full screen, tap the video once to show the buttons.
On a computer, click the Share icon below the post and choose Copy link, or click the post's timestamp to open it on its own page and copy the address from the address bar.
Quality and GIFs
X usually stores each video in several versions, for example 1080p or 720p plus smaller files for mobile data. SavyClip lists the versions X provides for that post; it does not upscale them. File sizes appear only when they are known.
GIFs on X are not real GIF files: X converts them to short, silent MP4 videos. You therefore receive an MP4, which plays everywhere and is much smaller than a GIF would be. Most phones and chat apps treat it like any other video.
Common problems and fixes
If a post does not work, check these causes:
- "No video or image found": the post contains only text or photos. Photo-only posts are not supported, and a quoted post's video belongs to the quoted post, so copy that post's link instead.
- "This post is private": the account is protected, so only approved followers can see it.
- Sensitive media: when X hides a video behind a sensitive-content warning, it can only be viewed when signed in, so it cannot be saved.
- "Live streams can't be downloaded": live broadcasts and Spaces are not supported.
Share responsibly
News clips, memes and personal videos on X belong to the people who made them, and news footage is often licensed. Save videos for personal use, credit the author and link to the original post when you talk about it, and ask permission before reposting someone else's video.
Limitations
- Only public posts: protected accounts are not supported.
- Posts marked as sensitive are not supported.
- Photo-only posts are not supported; only videos and GIFs can be saved.
- Live broadcasts and Spaces cannot be downloaded.
Questions and answers
Can I save a GIF as a .gif file?
X stores GIFs as MP4 videos, so that is the file you receive. MP4 plays in every browser and messaging app and is far smaller than an animated GIF.
Do twitter.com links still work?
Yes. Links on twitter.com, mobile.twitter.com and x.com all work, as do t.co short links.
Can I download a video from a reply or a quoted post?
Yes, but use the link of the post that actually contains the video. Open the reply or the quoted post on its own and copy its link.
Why is the video only 720p?
That is the highest version X provides for that post. Many videos are stored at 720p, and SavyClip only lists the versions that exist.
