Vimeo is home to short films, music videos, portfolios and tutorials, often uploaded in high quality. SavyClip saves public Vimeo videos from their link in the resolutions Vimeo offers, and can also keep just the soundtrack as an MP3.

Many Vimeo creators choose carefully who may watch and download their work. SavyClip respects those choices: it does not sign in, does not unlock password-protected or paid videos, and works only with videos that anyone with the link can play.

How to use it

  1. Step 1: Copy the video link

    On Vimeo, click or tap Share on the video and copy the link, or copy the address from the address bar.

  2. Step 2: Paste it into SavyClip

    Paste the link into the box on the SavyClip home page and press Download.

  3. Step 3: Choose a resolution

    Pick one of the resolutions Vimeo provides, or the MP3 for the soundtrack only.

  4. Step 4: Download

    Press Download next to your choice. Large, high-resolution files can take a little longer to start.

Which Vimeo links work

Use the link of one video. These forms are recognized:

  • https://vimeo.com/123456789
  • https://vimeo.com/123456789/abcdef1234 (unlisted videos, including the code after the number)
  • https://vimeo.com/channels/channelname/123456789 and https://vimeo.com/groups/groupname/videos/123456789
  • https://player.vimeo.com/video/123456789 (embedded player links)

Where to find the link

In the Vimeo app on iPhone and Android, open the video, tap the Share icon and choose Copy link. On a phone's browser, tap Share below the player and copy the link shown there.

On a computer, click the paper-plane Share button on the video player or below it and copy the link, or copy the address from the address bar. For a video embedded on another website, the embedded player's link (player.vimeo.com) works too, as long as the video is not restricted to that website.

Quality and the official download button

Vimeo commonly offers 360p, 540p, 720p and 1080p versions, and some creators upload in 2K or 4K. SavyClip lists the versions Vimeo provides for that video and shows file sizes only when they are known. High resolutions produce large files; choose 720p if you mainly watch on a phone.

Some creators switch on Vimeo's own Download button below the video. If you see it, that is the creator's invitation to download, and it may even offer the original file.

Common problems and fixes

If a Vimeo link fails, it is usually one of these situations:

  • "This post is private": the video is password-protected or private. Only the creator can share it.
  • "This video is copy-protected": the video is part of Vimeo On Demand or another paid offer, which is protected with DRM.
  • The video plays only on one website: the creator restricted embedding to that site, so it cannot be saved with SavyClip.
  • "Live streams can't be downloaded": live events are not supported.

Respect the filmmaker

Vimeo videos are frequently professional work. A saved copy is for watching offline or for reference, not for re-uploading, screening or editing into your own projects. When a creator offers a license or a download button, follow its terms, and contact the creator through Vimeo if you would like to use their work.

Limitations

  • Private and password-protected videos are not supported.
  • Paid videos (Vimeo On Demand) and DRM-protected videos are not supported.
  • Videos restricted to playback on specific websites may not work.
  • Live events, profile pages and showcase overview pages are not supported; use the link of each video.

Questions and answers

Can I download a password-protected Vimeo video if I know the password?

No. SavyClip does not accept or use passwords. If the creator has shared the password with you, ask them for a download link or use Vimeo's own Download button if they enabled it.

Why is 4K not offered?

The video was not uploaded in 4K, or Vimeo does not provide that version for playback. SavyClip lists only the versions that exist.

Do unlisted links work?

Yes, as long as you paste the complete link including the code after the video number. Without that code, Vimeo does not reveal the video.

Can I save a whole showcase or channel?

No. SavyClip works with one video at a time. Open each video and copy its own link.
